Great Winchester Street
This is a Category A refurbishment and fit-out of a seven-storey office block in the heart of the City of London. During the works two additional storeys have been built on the top of the original building, bringing the total number of storeys to nine.
The Challenge
The site location was challenging because there was no parking at site. Access along the one-way and narrow Great Winchester Street required careful logistical planning and traffic marshalling. The project was registered with the City of London’s Considerate Constructor scheme.
Solution
The project included an extensive internal reconfiguration of staircases to facilitate an optimal office layout. Old lift entrances were infilled, and a new lift shaft along with lifts was installed. Structural support was ensured through steelworks, and all plant was relocated to the new roof.
The top floor was enhanced with a roof light and a balcony was installed at the front of the building. A new reception area was created, and new steel-framed windows and doors were installed. The façade was reclad with stone, giving the building a refreshed and modern appearance while maintaining its structural integrity.
