Babcock International and London Fire Brigade

This unique negotiated project required our full design and construction service to deliver a dedicated training facility for Babcock International and London Fire Brigade.

The project

In order to replicate specific emergency scenarios, an existing warehouse unit was sourced to accommodate life size elements. An urban search and rescue training area (USAR) was constructed within the body of the warehouse together with a Fire House. These areas were further complemented by Incident Command Units, teaching rooms, gymnasium, toilet and shower blocks, kitchen facilities and supporting administrative spaces.

The completed training environment simulated a range of rescue situations including Mock Buildings, Confined Spaces, Breaching & Breaking, Shoring rigs, Lifting & Manoeuvring and Tower Crane. The NEC 3 Option A contract was designed with the close cooperation of London Fire Brigade staff against a finite budget and demanding completion programme.

From my CDM-C perspective, the work undertaken by the Brennan site team during the construction phase to maintain CDM compliance was to a really high standard. The arrangements set out at the beginning of the project were maintained throughout the whole build process. The health, safety and welfare of everybody on the site was always a priority. A really good job by all concerned.
